Movie Night in Dolores, and Other Weekend Happenings

20110924-075731.jpg

I love movies. I love the outdoors. I love sneakily consuming Sauvignon Blanc in public places. Put all of these things together and you have Dolores Park movie night! I’m “live blogging” I guess directly from my t-shirt quilt in the park and Top Gun is about to start. This is the first time I’ll be watching this classic. I’m mostly excited to watch the eye candy that is Val Kilmer. Yum.

The Girl Talk is a-bumpin’ and the place is packed with happy people, dogs and the occasional baby/child. It’s events like this that made me want to live in this great lil city.

I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

CineFiles: My Top 5 Movies of 2011 (so far)

So, I realized this morning that I haven’t blogged in a month, which I normally would be upset with myself for, but this lady (points to self) has been WAY busy! Excuses aside, I thought I’d talk a little about the movies I’ve seen this summer (some more than once). read more »

Pahole Vlogs about the SF International Asian American Film Festival

So, Marissa (who is my roomie extraordinaire and often mistaken as my twin – it’s the Russian nose!) stumbled upon the gold mine that is this series of vlogs featuring none other than one of my favorite people, Pahole Sookkasikon (known to many also as Mr. Hyphen… AND Mr. Mesa – zot zot!). In these vlogs, he gives us a behind the scenes look at the makings of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.

And yes, I included 3 episodes. You can thank me later.

This last one is a little hard to see/hear, but it’s fun nonetheless.

R.I.P. Gloria Stuart (July 4, 1910 – September 26, 2010)

“I think that’s the important thing, if you’re full of love, admiration, appreciation of the beautiful things there are in this life, you have it made, really. And I have it made.”

When I heard about Gloria Stuart’s passing on Monday, I thought… hot damn, it’s unfortunate that she’s ‘known’ for playing the role of the 100-year-old woman in Titanic (Cameron, 1996)… but maybe it isn’t so bad. She was nominated for an Academy Award, and finally gained the attention and fame that she deserved way wayyy earlier in her career. read more »

Thursday Inspiration: Coco Before Chanel

Monday night, after waiting a few days in anticipation for my next Netflix movies to arrive, I finally received two fashion-related films that I’ve been anxious to see: Brüno (Larry Charles, 2009) and Coco Before Chanel (Anne Fontaine, 2009). Needless to say, I watched not even 5 minutes of Brüno and decided that it needed to be sent back immediately, if not sooner. Alas,  it was quickly resealed in its red envelope and I then popped in Coco Becoming Chanel… within the first 30 seconds the movie was already vastly superior… ok, enough about how bad Brüno was and onto the good stuff! read more »
