Wednesday Inspiration: Betsey Johnson and Edie Sedgwick

On this slightly uneventful Wednesday, I think we all need a little metaphorical and inspirational punch in the face. I think the best person to do it is the incredible Betsey Johnson; our cart-wheelin’ fashion designer. In this video she talks about her friend and model Edie Sedgwick, and also about the unmatched greatness of the 1960s era of fashion. It’s a really fun, informative and inspiring video. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Thursday Inspiration: Just Be You

post-it_8-6-09

I came back from lunch to find this on my monitor. Every now and then my lovely coworker will jot down an inspirational or thought-provoking message on a post-it and leave it with me. I really loved the one she left me today and wanted to share it. It is a quote from Jason Mraz’s blog Freshness Factor Five Thousand . In his post he ends this thought with “Just Be You.” I absolutely love it. Thank you, Katrina!

Monday Inspiration: My Mom

Mom and Dad

I was sitting in the den with my parents the other day looking through old photos and I came across these from the “old days.” Above is a photo of my parents before they were married (circa 1979). Don’t I have attractive parents? I think so. (Ahem, that’s where I get it from!) Haha. Jk. I want to make a dress like the one my mom is wearing in this photo. This was a dress that she made herself! Too cute. My mom is always such a classy lady. I love how my dad seems to be presenting her like she’s a delicate porcelain doll… which is funny, because the lady is fierce (in a good way)! Don’t mess with my mom. Haha.

Mom

I love this picture of my mom at Disneyland, and I LOVE LOVE her sunglasses. So stylish! And I totally wear my hair that way. I’m more like my mom than I think…

Um, I invented Post-Its, or: Thursday Inspiration

postits

Christie: So, Michele! What are you up to?
Michele: Oh, okay. Um, I invented Post-Its.
Christie: No offense, Michele, but how in the world did *you* think of Post-Its?
Michele: Uh…
[looks across the room at Romy talking to Billy Christianson]
Romy: And I thought of them completely by myself. I mean, all Michele did was say: “What about making them yellow?”
Michele: [turns to the A Group] Actually I invented a special kind of glue.
Christie: Oh really? Well then I’m sure you wouldn’t mind giving us a detailed account of exactly how you concocted this miracle glue, would you?
Michele: No. Um, well, ordinarily when you make glue first you need to thermoset your resin and then after it cools you have to mix in an epoxide, which is really just a fancy-schmancy name for any simple oxygenated adhesive, right? And then I thought maybe, just maybe, you could raise the viscosity by adding a complex glucose derivative during the emulsification process and it turns out I was right.

Ok, that excerpt from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion was not really today’s inspiration, but THIS VIDEO is! I stumbled upon it via Twitter. Isn’t Twitter amazing, people? So powerful. Anyway, this stop-motion video was made by Bang-yao Liu, a student at Savannah College of Art and Design. Enjoy!

I heart good commercials.
