Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I, too, think the Spice Girls are great and love what they have done for not only feminism, but for pop culture in general. In the mid-nineties post-grunge funk, they were like a breath of fresh air. Viva forever! :)

I don't think that the Spice Girls propogated the culture of sex without love or the loss of the once promising direction in which equalitist-feminisit feeling ran in the early nineties; I think that they are the girls who got the ball rolling in Britain and who, because times changed around them, and because their roles in their own lives have changed, have adopted different images in their public sphere. Perhaps be embarrassed for them because they haven't managed to discern when their time is over, because they have become a part of the modern celebrity 'youth' and sexual culture merely through being famous, but don't be embarrassed for feminism. Feminism may have lost, but not in the way you mean here. The fact that women today are able to separate love from sex also means that they can make better informed decisions about their own relationships; the fact that female pop-stars today who are mothers go on tour and are judged as sad, no longer young and branded, as it were, as 'mothers' just proves that feminism still has a way to go. Why shouldn't five friends get together for a last tribute to the fans who made them who they are? Yes, they are older, and yes, they have families and children. But they are still in charge of who and what they are, they are still proud of themselves, and they are all managing just fine! I say good for them! Maybe they don't know when they've outstayed their welcome, but they are brave, and certainly not responsible for modern sexual attitudes.OK. Rant over :-) I love the Spice Girls, and they are a part of what makes me me! Love the website!
