Lake Tahoe Postcard c. 1940 (Source)
Living in a city where it’s not only cold in the summer, but also packed with buildings and people can really make a girl want to escape to the wilderness, and that’s exactly what we did this weekend. Four gals, one rental car, and one decades-old family cabin.
Complete with a closet o’ vintage board games!
The cabin was comfy and filled with kitschy goodness. Located in the city of Meyers, we were a quick drive away from the lake. We enjoyed the lake at Kiva Beach the first day, and then picnic’d at Fallen Leaf Lake the following day. Both days were a bit overcast, but we were able to take in the gorgeous views, soothing sounds of the tiny lake waves, and the crisp clean mountain air. Ahhhhh. I kind of miss it already.
Old Photo Reenactment #1
In between enjoying life in the wilderness, we filled what seemed like a lot of time (the first day especially) with fun magazines, movies, and a little gambling in South Lake Tahoe casinos. Cha-ching! Also, while looking through K’s grandma’s old family photos, we stumbled upon two amazing photos that begged to be reenacted. And since the cabin hasn’t changed much in the last 40 or so years, the reenactments were hilariously spot-on.
Old Photo Reenactment #2
After this weekend in Tahoe, I feel a new-found desire to spend more time outdoors. Not necessarily hiking or climbing, but just spending time in the forest. I think my friends and I all agreed that Tahoe would be a great place to have a vacation home. Someday! Also, it’s fun to think about Tahoe at the turn of the century; it’s rich with history and is just a great place to escape to. I can’t wait to go again.
